Are debates really debates anymore???

As always, Clinton and Obama are in the political news again with thier debate coverage, however for this time it is for another reason.

the NY TIMES reports that during the CNN coverage of the democratic debate thursday night at t he Kodak Theater in L.A. serveral CNN control room personel stepped out back during the debate because it was not that interesting at times.

"She didn’t answer the question at all,” said David Bohrman, the Washington bureau chief for CNN, sighing deeply as Mrs. Clinton discussed immigration.

The show was promoted throughout the week as "fight night" considering all the bashes both presidential candidates took on each other, it seemed to be a good title. BUT after watching the debate, many people including my self did not think the show did not live up to its name.

I believe that today's candidates, in all parties, sometimes dont even care about all the issues. Its all about publicity, its all about politics. I know I am biased towards to political party but still, in every party, they spend to much time and even more money bashing each other than actually standing up for what is right.

Do you think that this habbit will eventually corrupt the political election process? Probably not now but if nothing is changed and the candidates have the same outlook approach then yes, sometime down the road our children's children will definitly know the bad stuff about each of the candidates running. But will they know what they stand for, thier beliefs and most critical, how they plan to run our country?

I completely agree with you. It seems as though each so called "heated" debate is focused on who can bash who more. I feel as though it is a slow process as far as corrupting the political election process. It is something that will take over like a disease that kills slowly. In my personal opinion I do not think that our county is ready for a female president or a black president. I know that this sounds very biased, but that is just how I feel. If there focus in debates is bashing each other what makes anyone think that they are eligible to run our country?

It seems as if politicians today are becoming nothing more than celebrities in suit and tie. All they care about is the amount of publicity they get from certain organizations. Don't get me wrong, politicians do need publicity in order to ge their point across and to be heard, but there is a line that should be drawn.
Politicians today care about being known for popularity than their views on politics. It is a tricky line though, I will give them that. For it is always good to be a well loved politician by the people, but it is not all about popularity. People's opinions do change like the wind.

I watched both the republican and democratic debates and I am not very happy with any of the candidates. The debate on the democratic side did not turn out the way I thought it would turn out. I remember when she was asked about immigration and did not answer. Everybody has there own opinions about how to run this country and I just hope its somebody who really cares. The election may end up being just a popularity contest considering that there is an African American and a female running. The republican debate was rediculus the way Romney and Mccain were fighting about who said what in an interview that happened over a year ago. I do this it has come down to who can bash who better, and it looses its good old fashion intelligent debates.

I agree with you. The democratic and republican candidates are arguing about who said what than about the issues facing our country. I think that this habit will corrupt the political election process in the future because the candidates are mostly interested in getting publicity or winning some popularity contest than focusing on issues and possible solutions that affect this nation.

I can't honestly give my opinion on the debates because I am one of the few that don't watch television. But from what I have heard, some improvement needs to be made on both sides. As for Kellyn's comment, I do find that offensive. Women are just as capable of holding a political office as a male is. And for the comment about a black president, that goes back to the days of slavery, with the white men trying to control everything and allow the black man no power. So if you plan on being biased, at least think about your fellow readers, and be educated with it. There are plenty of black men AND women that hold top jobs and are capable of running and controlling with ease. The country is in need of change and perhaps this is the change that is needed, whether it be a black person, white person, hispanic person, asian person, transexual, homosexual, heterosexual, man, woman, boy, or girl. If they are capable of making the change, so be it. It is what is needed. The best qualified candidate that can address the issues and make the change should get the vote.
