La Times and some new tricks

The La Times and editor Russ Stanton decided to come up with a very clever idea to help with the growth of rising new editors.

Stanton, a well recognized editor for the La Times, took 25 editors to the South Bay this week for a beachfront "offsite" to help figure out the newsroom and its digital future

Their goal was to direct a three year plan for newsgathering opertaions. I personally believe this is something well thought of and could possibly do lots of good. With the uniquness of this idea comes alot of attention, I think. I am very curious to see how this plan unfolds and what the outcome is.

But I ask you, do you think this will be a good idea, or just a waste of the LA times' money?

Influence from the media?

I found an interesting post by Jeff Jarvis of the Buzz Machine on the Media and the effects it has on the upcoming elections. Particualry, on how the news latley has said that everyone should just count Clinton out of the race and that Obama has pretty much locked up the nomination.

Interesting, considering the fact that neither candidate is close to clinching all the deligates they need for the democratic nomination. As well as. Jeff Jarvis says, and I agree, that this election is not over and for fans of either candidate to slow down and not jump to conclusions.

Is it surprising that the media can have this much power? I mean I understand that people will turn to several media outlets for updates and information on the election. Thats what the media is there for. But, can or even should the media have that kind of manipulation?

Could this be an upcoming serious issue or infact just....nothing?
