Journalism not what it used to be...

They say that high quality informations is essential for our democracy to work. And that now more than ever we use every media source to relay the message
Thats all well and good, but when the important audience, being the youth of America, are choosing other music and non news related media outlets, the point does not get across.
Today's teen and young adults are growing up in a society in which the concept "journalism" has been distorted with propaganda.
My question to you is do you agree that todays youth society does not pay attention to the important national and world news that is out there and needs to be heard?
Do you think we as a country need to do anything? Or is this just another topic made up to cause arguments and drama, which America today is good at starting?

The assumption of America's youth not being intuned with world news used to be true. But I would say the event of 9-11 changed everyone's view of world news because it caught us off guard. It was like BAM! right in our faces that we were attacked on homeland turf. That was the starting point of youth, (or at least our generation), wanting to get more involved and "staying in the know." We are also at a new turning point in not only world news, but also U.S. news. I mean, we could have our first minority or woman president, and I think that everyone wants to be apart of that. The country cannot particularly do anything to make world news more appealing to people without fluffing it up and destroying the truth. It might have to be something that they just take the back sit on.

I actually agree with you when the America's youth doesn't pay attention to news that affect the national and the world. Most of America's youth are more worry about the latest trends out there that doesn't reflect anyone. I think has does enough to make them tune in to see what is going on in the nation and the world. Our nation's youth has to put forth the effect of finding in out what going on in their city and state. If they can keep up with the release of their favorite artist's CD, they can do same with the news.

I strongly believe that America's youth does not pay that much attention to the U.S. news and what is going on in our world. I know from first hand experience that I do not always pay attention to it either. Many youth find it more interesting to watch Inside Addition rather than watch what is going on in our world. I think that shows like that have began to consume people. This is such a great topic to bring up because it is so true. I do no think that the country can do anything to help it because it is what it is. It is hard facts and the truth which some peopl have a hard time dealing with. Great story.

This is true. The youth of America tends to have other priorities and is blind to the real news going on. What can we possibly do though? If we attempt to remove those media outlets, there would be more chaos in the streets. I like to think that as long as youth have an outlet, let it stay in order to maintain some sort of civil structure. Outlets like MTV news skew their news for the youth to topics they care about such as the Amy Winehouse break down or Britney in court again.

I think that young adults today defiently do not pay attention to the world news. I think that this is an important time to start paying attention to the news around the world, espically because this coming election could be history. I think that young people need to stop paying attention to reality t.v. and celebrities and start paying attention to the more important issues in society.
